Way of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks & Area launching 2006 campaign
with new approach
September 7,
2006
United Way of
Grand Forks, East Grand Forks & Area will launch its 2006
campaign Thursday morning, seeking $1.150 million to support health and human
service programs throughout this region.
United Way's Community Impact
Agenda is still the focus this year as it helps identify the most urgent human service needs and
targets support to solve these critical problems.
United Way’s
fundraising goal is 3.7% higher than it was last year; and the money
will be invested in the four focus areas to meet the targets its
volunteers have set.
To
strengthen and support families,
United Way will support prevention and early intervention to help
families cope with domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse and
other issues of family stability through six partner agencies:
Catholic Charities of North Dakota, the Community Violence
Intervention Center, Healthy Families, Lutheran Social Services,
Migrant Health Services and Village Family Services.
The United Way
campaign will help
seniors and other vulnerable citizens
remain independent and minimize institutionalization by aiding daily
living support and recreational opportunities through eight partners:
the Courage Center, Development Homes, GGF Senior Citizens
Association, Home Delivered Meals, the L.I.S.T.E.N. Center,
Mountainbrooke-Mental Health Association of North Dakota, Polk County
DAC, Prairie Harvest Foundation and the Retired Senior Volunteer
Program.
Partner agencies
support youth and combat drug and alcohol abuse by
providing positive role models, after school activities and leadership
opportunities. United Way’s eight partner agencies in this area
include: the American Diabetes Association, Child Care Resource &
Referral, GFAFB Child Development Center & Youth Program, North Dakota
Caring Foundation, Northern Lights Boy Scout Council, Pine to Prairie
Girl Scout Council, United Day Nursery and the Y Family Center.
United Way will
invest in seven agencies that
teach life skills to their clients
and promote self-recovery through personal preparedness. These
agencies will also provide transportation, literacy and child care
assistance to clients as they work towards self sufficiency. The
partner agencies in this area include: the American Red Cross, East
Grand Forks Food Shelf, GGF Community Service & Restitution Program,
North Country Food Bank, Northlands Rescue Mission, Project Advancing
Literacy and the Salvation Army.
